The show, which made a record-breaking debut in the Netherlands earlier this year, will be shown on BBC One in 2012.
A US version of the show, featuring Christina Aguilera on the judging panel, debuted on NBC in April.
"It's a big, exciting and warm-hearted series and will be a fantastic Saturday night event," said BBC One controller Danny Cohen.
The show was devised by John de Mol, who created the Big Brother format, who says it "stands for a new generation in its genre".
The programme sees four judges each select a team of contestants during a blind audition process.
Two singers from each team are then be pitted against each other, and after singing the same song, one is eliminated.
Remaining contestants will compete in a series of live broadcasts, with the TV audience helping judges to decide who will proceed.
Former X Factor stars Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole are among those who have been tipped to act as judges in the show.
